SMRT1 Technologies Ltd. is excited to announce the appointment of Terry Van Horn to the position of Executive Vice President. Reporting directly to Brad Pommen, President and Founder, Terry will provide core leadership decisions to the 3-year-old startup based in Nelson, BC. SMRT1 continues to disrupt traditional retail automated technologies in an industry best-known for snacks, soda and business models built on tight margins and low-tech solutions. SMRT1 is seeing global interest across the healthcare, smart city, tourism, transportation, and retail industries from a technology offering called Personalized On-Demand (SMRT1 POD) which collects data while dispensing an array of products.

Along with overseeing the core business development needs and investor relationships, Terry will be responsible for SMRT’s overall business strategies within the executive team. The role also includes the formation of successful business partnerships to propel financial growth by identifying opportunities, key clients, and maintaining extensive knowledge of our industry and market. She will be responsible for building strong investor relations and securing growth capital, negotiation, and execution of key contracts for Healthy & Smart Cities.

Previously as Executive Director of the Trail & Area regional Economic Development Office, Lower Columbia Initiatives Corp (LCIC), she has been committed to a cohesive, region-wide approach to the challenges and opportunities of growing the economy over the past decade. Terry’s commitment to the award-winning #MetalTechAlley marketing strategy promoting the BC region’s cluster of great minds and opportunities in metallurgical science and digital fabrication, industrial recycling and Big Data in the Industrial Internet of Things, helped pioneer the region’s leap into the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Her tenure includes over 17 years of building trusted relationships and partnerships to drive economic development including her work with the Kootenay Association for Science & Technology (KAST), MIDAS Digital Fabrications Lab (prototyping and commercialization) and i4C Innovation Hub in Trail, BC.

“I am extremely delighted and thrilled to be part of this exciting team and look forward to great success in growing SMRT1! It’s been a long time since I have been in the private sector and am ecstatic for this next chapter in my career, “ says Van Horn.

Never shy to take the stage, Terry will join Brad to promote the SMRT1 brand and evangelize BC technology excellence through their history of boots-on-the-ground networking both close to home and around the globe. The technology duo is already building on nearly a decade of regional alignment through their joint networks.

“We are pleased to welcome Terry to our Executive Team,” said Pommen. “Our company shapes technology to help traditional brick and mortar establishments deliver products instantly and gather data. Our focus is to democratize touchscreen vending machines with our SMRT1 Personalized On-Demand (POD) distribution. We remain intensely focused on enhancing our technology products through business excellence and believe Terry will develop our core business strategies to scale our commercialized products to a worldwide audience.”
